       A prescription order shall include the name, address and telephone number of the NP. An NP may not dispense drugs but may request, receive and sign for professional samples and may distribute professional samples to patients.

What are the requirements for controlled substance prescribing?

  • Prescribing controlled substances is within scope of independent practice. NPs must comply with state controlled substance prescribing requirements.
  • An NP shall not prescribe any drug that is intended to cause an abortion.
